Introduction to the CGA Website

Welcome to the Citrus Growers Associates (CGA) web page. CGA is an all amateur organization of citrus growers, mostly small ones, who are trying to find a way to spread information around as well as gather and exchange information and opinions.

We need to do all this in a convenient and economical manner. Our idea is to use the magic of modern electronic communication - the Internet.

This website will enable you to:

1. Read the opinions of other growers and post your own

2. Send messages to officials of government and associations

3. Offer opinions regarding regulations and legislative issues

4. Read analyses of citrus growers problems and positions

5. Read reports of recent Florida citrus events and meetings

6. View a calendar of upcoming events of interest to citrus growers

7. Learn of special purpose petition campaigns and join, if you wish

8. Access past CGA newsletters (Griffiths words of wisdom)

9. And other things, too

Each of these features is found in a special place in this website. The following is a map of how you find them. Be patient as we move ahead with this project; you will be our quality control program. As you come across problems, let us know so we can fix them. We appreciate any feedback, both pro and con.

The Home page allows visitors to move in many directions. The 5 other oranges on our tree are links to the major components of our website. We hope you will visit them all, however, the key to this website is the "Blog". It is here that we solicit your comments. It is here that you can be heard and see what other growers have to say. The "Blog" needs involvement to succeed. When sending us a comment, BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND ENTER THE "CODE" BEFORE TRYING TO SEND YOUR MESSAGE.

The other four oranges allow you to visit the Calendar of Events, Newsletters, Regulations, and Contacts page. Additional links at the top of the page provide access to Newspaper stories and the Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN), as well as provide information on CGA.

Blog Page

This means of communication is widespread on the Internet, but new to the citrus industry. We are experimenting with the best way to offer an opportunity to provide feedback. Our initial thinking is to have several blog topics. Each topic will be dedicated to a separate issue and one site will be "open" to encourage contributions in areas that don't "fit" our four (4) main issues.

If this is not logical to you, then let us know what you think will work better. Remember, in order for this website to work, you MUST be a part of it. The visitor MUST provide input. Our goal is to make this process as simple as possible. We are using a commercal "blog" program. Please note the procedure to submit a comment requires you to fill in the box above the "submit comments" button.

Our topics are as follows:

Regulations:

Items in place that impact how business is conducted. For growers, packers, harvesters, processors, nurserymen, etc., they have Canker Compliance Agreements for example.

Legislative Issues:

Issues that are before the state and federal legislature as well as proposals that will impact growers.

Department of Citrus and other Organizations:

Growers must rely on organizations to "run" their industry. How are these organizations representing your desires? What are they doing to help you?

Research - Production, Processing and Packing:

If the future of the citrus industry depends to a large degree on research to find answers to problems, it is imperative that the research organizations know what are the critical issues and growers demand accountability from the scientists.

Open Forum:

What is on your mind? The topics above might not be on target. What topics need to be addressed?

To reach the "blog", simple click on the appropriate orange located on the home page tree or on the menu button to the Blog on any of the other pages.

Thanks for visiting and let us hear from you! Also, tell other growers about our site.
