Citrus Grower Associates, Inc. was founded in 1984 by James T. Griffiths. Mostly,
until his death, in 2006 CGA served as a support, mostly financial, for his mission of
searching out truths and communicating them to CGA’s members by means of
weekly mailed newsletters. The Association did a few other things, most notably was a
grant funded study of possible new avenues for grower sales. It also participated
in the development of a proposed program promoting fresh juice sales in grocery
stores.

Griffiths is gone, not to be replaced, and neither is the mission he devoted his life to.
But, we, his successors, have a new idea, one we think better suited for todays
circumstances. It is this web site with its blog feature. This will allow us to post timely
information as well as links to places and resources. It will allow viewers to post their
ideas and reactions. It will also allow others to see how their fellow growers feel about
pertinent issues.

In short, CGA’s web site has a hugely open ended potential to inform and, hopefully,
stimulate growers interested in the future of citrus growing in Florida.

Organizations with staff and expenses to pay have endless money problems. The old
CGA was no exception. Director qualifications were to be a grower and to contribute
$1000 each year.

So far, the new CGA does not have any money problems and its new format makes
that unlikely. So, it needs directors who will help with the future. What kind of help?

-- Introduce the Association and the web page to growers and encourage them to use it.

-- Recommend grower interest issues to be featured and ways to do that.

We think it is fair to say, “Griffiths loved growing citrus and citrus growers”. We do,
